Tertiary emergency medicine requires a diverse set of skills and expertise. Our team of specialists come together to provide life-saving care, leveraging their respective areas of expertise.

Trauma Care Team

The trauma team at our hospital consists of board-certified emergency physicians in neurosurgery, orthopedics, and interventional radiology (IVR), who work together with various departments to treat all types of severe trauma patients. From initial treatment to surgery and postoperative intensive care management, emergency physicians lead the provision of trauma care, establishing a seamless trauma care system. In addition to emergency physicians, physicians from various departments in the hospital also provide specialized trauma care as needed.

Sepsis

We provide a multidisciplinary approach to treating sepsis, which includes ventilator management, renal replacement therapy, antimicrobial therapy, nutritional therapy, and surgical drainage, following the sepsis treatment guidelines and providing personalized care.

Poisoning

Emergency physicians with a specialty in clinical toxicology lead the treatment of various types of poisoning, such as those caused by household products, pesticides, industrial products, chemical agents, and pharmaceuticals.

Burns

Our department has five burn specialists who specialize in treating severe burns, including extensive burns and airway injuries. Our entire staff, including those at the emergency center who are not burn specialists, collaborates to provide comprehensive treatment, ranging from systemic management in the acute stage to skin grafting surgery.

Obstetric Emergency

Our department is designated as one of the nine facilities in Osaka Prefecture to provide care for pregnant women with the most severe complications. Working in close cooperation with obstetricians, pediatricians, and radiologists, the center provides life-saving care round the clock, 365 days a year.

Stroke

Our department collaborates with neurosurgeons and stroke physicians to provide treatment for all stroke cases. Emergency physicians are responsible for neuro-intensive care after specialized treatments such as t-PA (thrombolytic therapy), thrombectomy, and coil embolization.

Cardiovascular Diseases

With the support of cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons, we provide initial treatment and systemic management for severe heart failure and ischemic heart disease that may require ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and IABP (intra-aortic balloon pump) therapies.

Severe COVID-19

All severely ill COVID-19 patients requiring ventilator management and ECMO are treated in our department. Emergency physicians perform necessary procedures such as intubation, mechanical ventilation management, and ECMO placement before transferring patients to the hospital’s dedicated COVID-19 intensive care unit.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Our department is responsible for treating critically ill patients with a wide range of injuries and illnesses. After providing emergency treatment and ongoing intensive care, we arrange for patients to be transferred to other medical institutions or facilities or discharged home, depending on their condition.
